Overview of special issue

The aim of the special issue is to present the latest advances and developments of computational intelligence applications, new methods/techniques, systems and tools dedicated to technological advancement applications for smart manufacturing and Industry 4.0. Defining the term “Industry 4.0” or “smart factory can be summarized into four major components like Cyber-physical systems, IoT, On-demand availability of computer system resources and Cognitive computing. Today, a number of trends such as the internet of things (IoT), digital manufacturing, computational methodologies and cybernetics are considered key elements of the definition and implementation of Industry 4.0. Technological advancements in the ability to collect, transfer and analyze vast amounts of data very rapidly are at the core of this trend. Closely related, smart manufacturing is a concept that aims at developing smart intelligent systems that integrate these new technologies to rapidly adapt and respond to changes in the markets’ demands for high-quality products/applications. In practice, smart factories lie at the core of both, Industry 4.0 and smart manufacturing.

The main focus is on security problems in cloud computing that are associated with big data. Big data Analytics is a great benefit to organizations, business, companies and many small scales and large-scale industries.

Bioinformatics and Biotechnology creates heuristic approaches and complex algorithms using computational intelligence in order to solve biological problems.

Module–4: Cryptography and Information Security:

In this chapter cryptography is the science and art of encrypting data so that only the intended receiver can decrypt and retrieve the original data. This chapter makes use the computational intelligence for Information Security.

Module–5: Digital Signal and Image Processing:

This chapter show the development of Digital Signal and Image Processing using Artificial Intelligence (AI), including both hardware and software algorithms.

Module–6: Intelligent Wireless and Sensor Networks:

The goal of this chapter is to introduce computational intelligence capability for the wireless sensor networks to become adaptive to changes within a variety of operational contexts and to exhibit intelligent behaviour.

Module–7: Machine Learning Microelectronics, Circuits and Systems:

Progress in microelectronic technology and Circuits and Systems is extremely fast and it is outstripping the designers' abilities to make use of the created opportunities. This chapter shows the importance of the Machine Learning techniques for the circuits and systems design space exploration, explains and discusses the place, role and way of use of these techniques in circuits and systems.

Module–8: Nanotechnology and Applications

During the last decade there has been increasing use of computational intelligence tools in nanotechnology research. This chapter shows some of these efforts in the context of interpreting scanning probe microscopy, the study of biological Nano systems, and generally in the design of nanodevices.

Module–9: Optimization Techniques:

Computational intelligence techniques try to simulate human behaviour. They present a better, and accurate solution to an optimization problem than the existing conventional techniques. This chapter shows some of the peculiar CI techniques and their properties.

Module–10: Web Security, Privacy and E–Commerce Business Computing:

This chapter will explore and discuss the development of relevant topics that are of high importance in computational Intelligence applied to the field of Web Security, Privacy and E–Commerce Business Computing.

Module-11: “Computational Intelligence for Industry”
